The Beginning
Born from a Simple Belief
KHONG was born from a simple belief: that the most extraordinary material for building has been growing beneath our feet for millennia. Bamboo — stronger than steel in tension, lighter than timber, and capable of growing a meter a day — is nature's most perfect engineering material.
Our founder spent three years apprenticing with master bamboo builders across India, Japan, and Colombia, learning techniques passed down through generations. In 2011, KHONG was established in India with a singular mission: to elevate bamboo from a rural building material to a medium of luxury architecture and design.
Our Values
Three Pillars of KHONG
Master Craftsmanship
Every joint is fitted by hand. Every surface is polished by feel. Our artisans don't just build with bamboo — they have a dialogue with the material, respecting its grain, its natural curves, and its inherent strength.
Radical Sustainability
Bamboo reaches harvestable maturity in 3-5 years, compared to 30-60 years for timber. It sequesters more carbon per hectare than any tree. Our production is carbon-negative, and our waste bamboo becomes biochar for local farmers.
Modern Engineering
We marry traditional joinery with modern structural engineering. Every KHONG structure is load-tested, weather-modeled, and engineered for the Indian climate — monsoons, heat, and everything in between.
